A Dalit man was kicked and slapped by two home guards in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly. The video of the incident went viral on X on May 14. It was shared by a social media user Sachin Gupta, who shared that the home guards are Veer Bahadur and Ram Pal and the man who was being thrashed is Virendra Kumar. The home guards were seen pinning the man down on the ground.

The home guards were also heard saying in the video, "You take free ration from the government and don't even vote."

After the clip of the incident started doing rounds on the internet, the Bareilly police initiated action against the home guards and a probe is currently underway.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi also reacted to the viral video. She said, "People get rations because every citizen in this country has the right to food. The grain is grown by farmers, money that is spent on the distribution of it is of the people."

She further said, "Does the BJP government want to make the public hostage by spending a little of their money on them? Where did these policemen get the courage to behave like BJP goons and be so cruel to our Dalit brothers?"
