The speculation around the Congress candidate from Amethi has finally come to an end as the grand old party announced its candidate from the key seat. Congress loyalist Kishori Lal Sharma is all set to take on BJP's Smriti Irani from Amethi, who won the 2019 polls by defeating Rahul Gandhi from Amethi seat.
Kishori Lal Sharma hails from Ludhiana and has been associated with Congress party for over four decades. In 1983, he came to Amethi and since then, he has been working for the constituency.
He was a close aide of Rajiv Gandhi. After the assassination of Rajiv, his ties grew stronger with the Gandhi family. According to reports, he even played a crucial role in helping Sonia Gandhi secure a seat from Amethi in 1999.
KL Sharma will file his nomination papers on May 3.
