A 26-year-old independent MLA, Ravindra Singh Bhati, from the Shiv constituency in Rajasthan's Barmer district, has decided to contest as an independent candidate for the Barmer Lok Sabha seat. His decision has posed a challenge for BJP minister Kailash Choudhary.
Ravindra Singh Bhati belongs to a village named Dudhora in Barmer. His father worked as a teacher. Bhati marked his entry into politics while pursuing higher education at Jai Narain Vyas University, where he was active member of the All India Students' Association (AISA).
He did not get a ticket from the ABVP. Thus, he decided to contest independently. He became the first independent candidate in Jai Narain Vyas University's 57-year history.
He came to the limelight in 2022 when he led his friend Arvind Singh Bhati to victory in the student union elections at Jai Narain Vyas University.
Ravindra Singh Bhati then joined the BJP. When denied ticket for the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly elections, he contested as an independent candidate. He also emerged victorious with a margin of 4,000 votes.
