Just days ahead on Punjab Assembly elections, Enforcement Directorate has arrested Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi's nephew in an alleged case of illegal sand mining.

Bhupinder Singh Honey was arrested on Thursday evening after day-long questioning by the central agency in the sand mining case.

Last month ED had raided the CM's relative and had seized 10 crore in cash.

In a statement, the Enforcement Directorate had said "incriminating" documents related to the "illegal" sand mining and property transactions, mobile phones, gold worth more than ₹ 21 lakh, and a Rolex watch worth ₹ 12 lakh were also seized during the searches.

CM Channi had slammed the raids calling them Centre's pressure tactics ahead of polls.

Opposition parties have been linking Channi with the dealings of Honey which the CM has denied.

Punjab will vote for all 117 Assembly seats on February 20.
