Punjab Elections 2022| Election Commission withdraws Sonu Sood's appointment as state icon

As Punjab gears for Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India has withdrawn the appointment of actor Sonu Sood as its state icon. Sonu Sood who was appointed the state icon in November last year. 

Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab, S Karuna Raju, said that Sonu Sood’s appointment was withdrawn on January 4 this year. 

In recent months, Sood had visited Punjab several times and met political personalities, including Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and president of Shiromani Akali Dal Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Sood had also held a press conference announcing that his sister would be contesting the Punjab assembly election from Moga. However, he had not disclosed which party she would join.

The actor has however consistently denied that he would contest the polls likely to be held in March this year.
