An interesting election battle is in place in the Jubilee Hills Assembly segment in Hyderabad. The Congress has deputed former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin to take the sitting BRS lawmaker M Gopinath head-on.
For Azhar Hyderabad is the home ground but when it comes to elections, the city is a foreign pitch. That is why accompanied by followers, he started his poll campaign and is undertaking padayatras, besides a door-to-door campaign.
But it is not a two-side contest for Azhar, the Assaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM has also put up a candidate. Analysts think this a cover fire for Gopinath as there are chances that its candidate Mohammad Rashed Farazuddin may split the votes to Azhar’s disadvantage.
An undeterred Azhar told PTI that the people of Jubilee Hills are solidly behind him and they want him Insha Allah.
"We are fighting our own election. We are not really worried about who is doing what. I am fighting my own election. It is important for me and I know the people of Jubilee Hills are solidly behind me. They all want me Insha Allah," Azhar said.
