Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from UP's Domariaganj has been telling his voters that if they elect him again, Muslims will stop wearing their skullcaps and start putting Hindu tilaks on their foreheads.'
A video of the BJP leader, Raghvendra Pratap Singh's speech littered with anti-Muslims slurs has gone viral. In the speech given two days ago, Singh is also heard telling voters that Muslims will start greeting each other with Jai Sita Ram if he is elected again.
Raghvendra Pratap Singh represents the Domariyaganj Assembly constituency in Siddharthnagar district of Uttar Pradesh that will go to poll in phase six, on March 3.
"For the first time so many Hindus are contesting from the constituency. Will there be 'salaam' in Domariyaganj or 'Jai Shri Ram'?" he ranted in a stream of divisive comments.
As the outrage grew, the MLA defended his hate speech. Singh on Monday said that he had meant it as a "conditional speech" to counter what he called "Islamic terrorism".
The UP police say they have filed a case after the video of his virulent campaign speech emerged online.
