This belt is mainly in focus due to the participation of farmers from these parts in the recent protest at Delhi's borders against the three contentious farm laws. The farmer protest is also believed to have gained the support of the Jat community which is perceived as influential in these parts.
Opposition Samajwadi party allied with Jayant Chaudhary's Rashtriya Lok Dal to capitalise on this. The BJP has tried to woo the community by claiming that Jats have traditionally supported the saffron party.
The first phase has 623 candidates, and 2.27 crore people eligible to vote, as per reports.
