The Samajwadi Party finds itself in trouble for possible violation of Covid-19 and EC norms. Hundreds of SP supporters gathered at the party headquarters in Lucknow for a 'virtual' event on Friday inspite of the poll panel banning physical rallies, roadshows and marches till January 15 due to Covid-19.

India Today reported that Lucknow Police has registered an FIR against 2,500 SP supporters.

SP has claimed that it was supposed to be a virtual rally at the party office to welcome BJP leaders into the Samajwadi fold but supporters came there on their own.

Photographs and videos from the event show SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and other party leaders addressing the rally from what looks like an open stage inside the party office with a huge crowd in attendance.

Videos being circulated on social media also show the police clearing the crowd from SP office. The district magistrate told the media that permission for holding such an event was not taken.
