There have been reports of technical snags and malfunctioning of EVMs and VVPATs as Uttar Pradesh votes in the first phase of the assembly elections.
Additional Chief Election Officer B D Ram Tiwari told news agency PTI that polling is going on peacefully and EVMs which were reported to be faulty have been replaced.
RLD chief and Akhilesh Yadav's ally, Jayant Chaudhary took a swipe at BJP and tweeted that EVMs were malfunctioning as youngsters and farmers were pressing the button in anger. He urged them to press the button lightly in favour of the SP-RLD alliance.
The first phase of polling is being held in 58 assembly seats spread across 11 districts in the western part of the state.

As many as 623 candidates including 73 women are in the fray in the first phase and around 2.28 crore voters including 1.24 crore men and 1.04 women besides others are eligible to cast their franchise.
