As the Uttar Pradesh elections move towards their conclusion, the fifth phase of voting is taking place in 61 constituencies across 12 districts.
The keenly-watched seat of Ayodhya is voting today. The construction of the Ram temple has been a constant refrain in BJP's poll speeches. The ruling party accused Opposition parties of trying to block or delay the construction for decades.
The constituencies of Amethi and Raebareli are also voting today. The two were considered bastions of the Gandhi family, but the Congress grip seems to have weakened, especially after Rahul Gandhi's defeat in Amethi in 2019.
The other high-profile contests reportedly include incumbent deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya in Sirathu, minister Siddharth Nath Singh from Allahabad West, Apna Dal (K) leader Krishna Patel in Pratapgarh, and Congress' Aradhana Mishra from Rampur Khas.
Around 2.24 crore voters are reportedly eligible to vote in the fifth phase which has 692 candidates in the fray. Results will be announced on March 10.
