Music maestro AR Rahman needs no introduction. He stole our hearts with 'Roja', the 1992 Mani Ratnam film where he got his first break, and there's been no turning back.
As the 'Mozart of Madras' turns 55, here are five of Rahman's evergreen songs that we picked from the composer's elaborate repertoire.
Humma Humma | Bombay
'Humma Humma' from 1995 film 'Bombay' directed by Mani Ratnam is a cult classic. Picturised on Sonali Bendre and Remo Fernandes, the song has been remixed many times, the latest version recreated by Badshah and Tanishk Bagchi for the film 'Ok Jaanu' featuring Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur.
Yeh Haseen Waadiya | Roja
Rahman got his big break with Mani Ratnam's 1992 film 'Roja'. The film was a huge success and its soundtrack was credited as one of the biggest reasons behind that. 'Yeh Haseen Wadiya' is picturised on Madhoo and Arvind Swamy and is set in the picturesque locations of Kashmir. The romantic duet has been sung by Chithra and SP Balasubramaniam and 'Roja' bagged Rahman his first National Award for Best Music Director.
Dil se re | Dil Se
The title track of 'Dil Se' is another milestone of Rahman's musical career. Sung by A. R. Rahman, Anuradha Sriram, Anupama & Febi Mani, the lyrics of the song have been penned by Gulzar. Shah Rukh Khan running with Manisha Koirala as the song plays in the background is forever etched in our minds. The soft music and the beautiful lyrics make Dil Se a masterpiece.
Kun Faya Kun | Rockstar
There is something in AR Rahman's 'Kun Faya Kun' that stirs your soul, clears your mind and makes your heart happy. Add to that a bit of Ranbir Kapoor's charisma and you have the perfect song for all your moods.
Agar Tum Sath Ho | Tamasha
Another classic, 'Agar Tum Saath Ho' starring Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor had the mehr of AR Rahman's music, and is among the many tracks that stayed with us. The ultimate break-up song, 'Agar Tum Sath Ho' is still the best track to cry to.
