Veteran actor Satish Kaushik died in New Delhi following a heart attack and tributes are pouring in from his colleagues in the film industry. Actor Neena Gupta and her daughter Masaba Gupta also shared heartfelt posts.
Actor Neena Gupta bid adieu to her dear friend via a video on social media and prayed for his wife and daughter.
Her daughter Masaba Gupta shared a picture from the sets of one of Neena and Satish’s films, and wrote, ‘Rest in peace Kaushik uncle – you gave mom the greatest gift.. your kindness through all those years – will miss you.’
One of Satish’s early works includes Kundan Shah’s 1983 hit ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, in which he starred alongside Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, and Neena Gupta.
A few years ago, Neena Gupta published her autobiography ‘Sach Kahun Toh’ in which she mentioned their unique friendship. She revealed that when she was pregnant with cricketer Viv Richards’ child, Satish suggested that she could pass the child off as his after getting married. Neena was anticipating criticism for having a child out of the wedlock.
‘Don’t worry, if the child is born with dark skin, you can just say it’s mine and we’ll get married. Nobody will suspect a thing,’ he told her.
Later, in an interview, Kaushik talked about the situation and said that he had been friends with Neena since 1975, and only a few people knew about her pregnancy. He said that he didn’t want her to be alone so he offered to help.
Speaking with Bombay Times, he said ‘I was concerned about not letting her feel alone. At the end of the day, that’s what friends are for, right?’ He further stated that his offer to marry her ‘was a mix of humour, concern, respect, and support’.
A day before his death, Satish Kaushik celebrated Holi with several Bollywood celebrities at Javed Akhtar’s house. He will be seen posthumously in the period drama ‘Emergency’, directed by Kangana Ranaut.
