International Coffee Day: Known for its rich aroma and comforting warmth, coffee is a dark liquid that is consumed the world over. It is so widely consumed that the world's coffee resources run the risk of drying up. 

Celebrated on 1st October each year, International Coffee Day is a day when coffee lovers come together to rejoice in their love for this beverage. Set up by the International Coffee Organisation, the day aims at creating awareness about coffee and coffee farmers.

Even though there is unsatiated thirst and undying love for coffee, there are some fun facts about this favorite brew that people may not be aware of. 

FUN FACTS ABOUT COFFEE

Brazil's Olympic bid was aided by coffee

During the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, there were not enough funds available to send the athletes. Eventually, money was collected by selling coffee.  

Coffee is a fruit

It turns out that even though it is called a bean, coffee is a fruit. Extracted from the centre of a berry known as coffee cherry, the coffee bean is the coffee plant's seed. 

Coffee was banned in Sweden

Even though there is an immense amount of love for coffee, its consumption was not loved by all. Back in 1746 coffee, including coffee cups and dishes, were banned in Sweden. The most popular belief is that it was done to save the consumers from its effects. 

Largest cup of coffee was over 22,000 litres

Going by the Guinness World Record, the largest cup of coffee containing around 22,739 litres was created in 2019.
