Govardhan Puja 2021: Also known as Annakut Puja, Govardhan Puja is celebrated as the day when Lord Krishna defeated God Indra. The day usually falls the next day after Diwali. This year it shall be celebrated on 5th November.

Going back to the relevance of Govardhan puja, there is one narrative that is quite prevalent. As per Hindu mythology, the day marks the incidence in which Shri Krishna lifted the Govardhan Hill to provide shelter to the residents of Vrindavan from excessive rains.

On this day devotees mark the celebrations by making Govardhan mountain in their courtyards using cow dung. In some temples, Lord Krishna's idols are bathed in milk and dressed in fresh clothes and fine jewellery.
