Whether you need a cute new workout outfit or just some comfortable sweatpants at home, young homegrown Indian labels have got you covered. The rise in demand for clothes that are both fashionable and comfortable has increased by manifold in the last few years giving birth to a hybrid term called athleisure.

The Indian fashion industry is definitely not sleeping on the trend. Going beyond the norm, some brands are taking an eco-conscious and ethical approach to produce their clothes.

From organic to fair trade cotton, here is the lowdown on X desi brands that are doing athleisure with a sustainable touch.

PROYOG

Designed with yoga practitioners in mind, Proyog places sustainability and performance as its prime proposition. From dhoti-shorts, wrap tops to infinity scarves with built-in pockets, the brand puts extensive research into their products, all of which are made from their trademark core-spun organic cotton.

DEIVEE

The brainchild of model and fitness promoter Milind Soman, Deivee is designed with Indian sensibilities and body types in mind. Apart from yoga gear, the brand makes performance kurtis, harem pants and more. All of their products are made from eco-friendly materials like organic cotton, banana fibre, wild grass, coconuts and recycled polyester.

FUTURE OF

A much younger entrant in the leisurewear segment, Future Of seeks to reimagine the future of the fashion industry as sustainable and inclusive. The brand launched with a collection of gender-neutral loungewear in solid colours. All the pieces are made from 100% organic cotton.

While the likes of Nike, Adidas and even H&M have also hopped on the sustainable fashion movement, nothing beats the joy of supporting the local brands and being a part of their success!
