After slamming the farmers’ protest outside the Parliament on Thursday, BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi said her statement on the subject has been misinterpreted.

The recently appointed Minister of State for External Affairs reportedly said the protestors were “not farmers, they are hooligans.”. Lekhi said she is taking her words back if it hurt anyone.

The Union minister while talking about an alleged attack on a media person during the ‘Farmers’ Parliament’ at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi, claimed that the opposition was promoting such activities.

The farmers were joined by Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, during their gathering near the Parliament premises.

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait, who is leading the coalition of protestors, hit out at Lekhi and said farmers are annadatas' and to call them such names is inappropriate.
