The wait is over! IKEA has revealed its plans for a shopping centre in Gurugram, that will be its first to open in India.
Catering to the Gurgaon and Delhi National Capital Region’s growing population and built around the needs of the local community, the meeting place is expected to welcome more than 20 million people annually who will come to shop, work, eat, exercise, learn and socialise.
According to reports, IKEA had bought a plot in Gurugram for a shopping centre for which the construction would start in 2022.
The company is expected to complete the centre, which will beside an IKEA store also house office space in late 2025.
Ingka Centre, part of the Ingka Group which also includes IKEA Retail and Ingka Investments in February announced it had bought a plot in Noida on the outskirts of Delhi and planned to invest nearly 55 bn rupees in its first shopping centre in India, but now said the one in Gurugram would open before that.
The Swedish furniture retailer has two standalone large format stores in India. Ikea opened its first store in Hyderabad in 2018 and the second one in Navi Mumbai last year.
