India recorded a sharp spike in Covid-19 cases with over 90,000 fresh infections in the last 24 hours, govt data showed on Thursday morning. This is a steep jump of 56% from over 58,000 logged on Wednesday. Death toll reported in the last 24 hours stood at 324, which is a climbdown from 534 fatalities on Wednesday. Total deaths due to the virus now stand at 4,82,876.
The number of active Covid case has also shot past the 2.8 lakh mark. The country has reported a positivity rate of over 6.4%.
Meanwhile, the number of Omicron cases in India has crossed 2600. The cases of the more infectious Covid-19 variant have been reported in 23 states so far, according to the Union Health Ministry.
Maharashtra has reported the highest 797 cases so far while Delhi has reported 465 patients.
