Karwa Chauth 2021: Majorly celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm in North India, Karwa Chauth is an important festival. As per the Hindu lunar calendar, the festival falls on the fourth day of the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. This year this festival is being celebrated on Sunday, 24 October.

The word Karwa Chauth is derived from two words: 'Karva,' which refers to an earthen pot with a spout, and 'Chauth,' which refers to the fourth. On this day women and sometimes even men observe a fast and pray for the long life and well-being of their spouses. During the fast, not even a drop of water is consumed.

Apart from offering prayers, numerous mythological stories are recited during the puja. This year the Karwa Chauth Puja timing is between 6:55 pm to 8:51 pm on October 24. There is also a tradition of seeing the moon to break the Karwa Chauth fast. And the fast ends after offering food and water to the moon.
