'New Year, New Beginnings, and with this hope comes 'Dry January'. Every year, a number of people start their new year by taking part in a month-long sobriety challenge. However, a month after testing willpower, people tend to return to their old drinking habits.
But, now a study has shown that people who participate in Dry January and other sober-week or month challenges frequently, experience lasting benefits.
The study was published in BMJ Open where a team of researchers in London and the United States recruited a group of 94 healthy men and women who were willing to give up alcohol for one month.
It was found that those who gave up alcohol for one month had significant improvements in their metabolic health. Other than this, Dry January participants reported better sleep, saved money, and lost weight.
