Are you one of those who wakes up before your alarm rings? Well, you are not the only one. This happens to many people and here’s the reason behind this habit of yours.
Human bodies sometimes are able to sense time even when the person is asleep. According to sleep experts, this is controlled by nerves known as the suprachiasmatic nucleus or SCN, a small region of the brain in the hypothalamus that controls when we feel sleepy.
But our sleep-wake cycle is controlled by a protein called PER. The cycle is maintained well if a person wakes up and sleeps at the same time regularly. The mind at some point starts signaling the body and you start waking up before the alarm. Low levels of PER can lead to low blood pressure which makes us sleepy at night and higher blood pressure keeps us awake.
