Many popular beers are becoming weaker, all thanks to the latest trend known as 'drinkflation.'
Several brewers in the UK including Spitfire, Old Speckled Hen, Foster's and Bishops Finger have reduced the alcohol content of their drinks in order to pay less tax amid a cost of living crisis. But the selling price of the drinks has remained the same, which is unfair for the consumers.
It is quite similar to a previous trend 'shrinkflation', where products shrunk while listing prices remain the same or higher.
Notably, brewers pay less tax on drinks with a lower alcohol content under UK law. However, drinks will be taxed by alcoholic strength from August 1 after the new alcohol duty regime comes into effect.
