And the wait is over! Finally, the new Pilot and cabin crew uniforms of Air India have been introduced by the airline. As per a post on X, it is an ode to Air India’s rich history and promise of a bright future.
These uniforms have been envisioned and designed by none other than Manish Malhotra. The couture features three quintessential Indian colours – red, aubergine and gold, representing the confident, vibrant new India.
The video shared by Air India on X highlights the rich background of the national carrier. Showcasing cabin crew in traditional sarees and the iconic Air India mascot 'The Maharaja', the video is surely taking us down the memory lane.
Manish Malhotra said in the video, "Air India always felt like more than an airline to me. It was a symbol of Indian pride in the skies. There have been times when halfway across the world, I have caught a glimpse of an Air India plane and felt closer to India again. "
"There's an air about Air India. They used to say, and there most certainly was 'An air of luxury', 'An air of glamour', brought by the cabin crew, who were icons."
Malhotra also shared that earlier cabin crew would wear lehngas and maangtikas. So, for him designing the uniform sfor the new era of Air India was incredibly an exciting chance.
