In the ever-evolving world of beauty and skincare trends, the internet can be a breeding ground for bizarre experiments and unconventional practices. One such trend that gained traction on TikTok was the use of underarm roll-ons as a substitute for makeup primers on the face.

Claiming to provide a flawless base for makeup application, this viral hack sparked curiosity among beauty enthusiasts. However, before jumping on the bandwagon, it is essential to examine the potential risks and consequences of using underarm roll-ons on delicate facial skin.

The trend of using underarm roll-ons as a makeup primer began as an attempt to find an alternative to traditional facial primers. Some TikTok users claimed that the active ingredients in underarm antiperspirants, such as aluminium compounds, could create a smooth surface for makeup, reduce shine, and extend the wear time of the foundation. Additionally, underarm roll-ons are often more affordable than dedicated makeup primers, which added to their appeal for those on a budget.

Some beauty influencers and TikTok users tried the hack and posted videos showcasing their experiences. According to their testimonies, underarm roll-ons did indeed provide a mattifying effect, increased the longevity of makeup, and helped minimize the appearance of pores.

However, it is crucial to approach these experiments with caution, as the skin on the face and underarms differ significantly in terms of texture, sensitivity, and oil production.

Dermatologists and skincare experts have raised concerns about using underarm roll-ons on the face. The skin on the face is thinner and more sensitive than the underarm skin. While some of the ingredients in underarm roll-ons may be safe for the underarms, they could lead to adverse reactions when applied to facial skin.

One primary concern is the presence of aluminium compounds, commonly found in antiperspirants. These compounds are effective at blocking sweat glands on the underarms but may cause irritation or clogged pores on the face. In some cases, individuals with sensitive skin may experience redness, itching, or breakouts.
