From where did nail art originate?

The origins of nail art can be traced back to ancient Egypt around 5000 BC. Egyptian women from all social classes used henna to dye their nails and fingertips. They believed it represented social status, with brighter colours signifying higher social standing.

The invention of nail extensions

The invention of the current nail extensions started with Fred Slack, a dentist who broke his fingernail at work and created an artificial nail using acrylic as a replacement. After experiments with different materials to perfect his invention he and his brother Tom patented a successful version and started a company Patti Nails.

The nail art business is emerging as one of the growing areas in the makeup industry today. And, changing lifestyle of Indians and their outlook towards beauty. With the entrance of brands like Nail Bar, Nails Mantra and more the beauty industry is becoming an organised sector in nail art.
