Fashion designer Suneet Varma unveiled his latest collection 'Nazm', showcasing a breathtaking spectacle at India Couture Week 2024. Drawing inspiration from India's rich decorative art heritage, the collection infuses a contemporary twist into traditional techniques, showcasing exquisite hand-embroidered appliqué work in opulent gold and ivory hues from various parts of the country. A harmonious ode to the seductive allure of classic Bollywood, the collection caters to the modern Indian woman's desire for elegance and individuality while celebrating the nation's rich artistic legacy. In collaboration with the exquisite Raniwala 1881, the jewellery partner for the show, the collection sparkled with added brilliance.
The runway was transformed into an enchanting white forest, a whimsical dreamscape that transported the audience to a land of fantasy and seduction. This ethereal setting intertwined with the interplay of light and shadow through the delicate forest added a mystical aura that perfectly complemented Varma's collection.
“Nazm is an intimate ode to India's rich heritage and the timeless allure of classic Bollywood romance,” revealed Suneet Varma. “This collection is a celebration of the modern Indian woman – who is confident, sensual, and unapologetically herself. It is my heartfelt desire that each piece becomes a cherished heirloom, an extension of her unique story and dreams, passed down through generations.” he further added.
The collection epitomises romance, femininity, and flirtatious charm and features luxurious fabrics like soft metallic tissue, pastel organza, and fluid chiffons that gracefully drape the body. Midnight blue and burgundy hues with silver accents add a touch of mystery to glamorous lehengas. Varma's innovative use of appliqué in shiny metallic foil blends glamour with traditional silhouettes, offering lightweight yet opulent pieces. Pale grey, light celadon green, ice pink, and ivory hues feature prominently in asymmetrical tunics, 'Farshi' shararas, and draped sarees complemented by his signature corseted blouses.
Abstract floral embroidery in gold and silver whispers of timeless romance, while jewel-toned crystals in emerald green, ruby red and sapphire blue cascade down dramatically draped skirts, reflecting the grandeur of India's gemstone legacy.
From bridal extravagance to chic cocktail soirées, "Nazm" celebrates inclusivity and versatility, catering to diverse age groups and occasions. Each piece reflects Varma's commitment to merging classic craftsmanship with contemporary sophistication, solidifying his position as a leading figure in Indian couture.
