Renowned designer Tarun Tahiliani has partnered his ready-to-wear menswear label, Tasva, with the Indian Olympics Association to design the official ceremonial attire for team India at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The opening and closing nights of the upcoming Olympics will be no less than a fashion extravaganza with the teams donning beautiful designs steeped in their country’s heritage.
The team India's sportsmen will wear a kurta bundi set, while the sportswomen will be adorned in matching elegant sarees reflecting the colours of the Indian flag. The outfits showcase ikat-inspired, digitally printed panels in saffron and green, with blue buttonholes on an ivory base symbolizing peace and unity.
The official statement by the Hon’ble Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya was shared on June 30, 2024. He unveiled the details about the official ceremonial dress of Team India in the presence of Indian Olympics Association President, Dr PT Usha. Tahiliani embraced India’s tricolour, incorporating fabrics like Banarsai silk and brocade. While creating a ceremonial dress, he tried to blend traditional aesthetics with modern comfort.
“We're incredibly honoured to dress Team India. We worked closely with the Indian Olympic Association to create an attire that tells a story about India. The garments are designed to be visually captivating while also ensuring comfort and practicality. As our athletes make their grand entrance on a barge along the Seine for the opening ceremony, the airy, lightweight attire is perfectly suited for the summer warmth of Paris in July. We want our athletes to walk out on the global stage feeling like they are ambassadors of Indian culture and heritage. This is our dream — to see our traditions celebrated and honoured around the world,” said Tahiliani, Chief Design Officer, Tasva.
