Most of us don't wash our make-up brushes often enough which leaves them covered in more bacteria than on an average toilet seat.
A new study conducted by cosmetic tools brand Spectrum Collections revealed that unwashed makeup brushes contain a horrifying amount of bacteria no matter where they're stored.
For the study, researchers examined unclean makeup brushes kept at different places like bedroom vanity, makeup bag, brush-specific bag, drawer and bathroom holder.
Comparing the results to the swab of a toilet seat, the team found that no matter where the brushes were stored, the number of bacteria was either the same or more than the seat.
The American Academy of Dermatology Association recommends cleansing brushes every 7 to 10 days as dirty brushes can result in acne or skin irritation.
