Nowadays, you can see a rise in popularity of chia seeds. They are packed with calcium, zinc, fibre and protein and polyunsaturated fat, and there are many ways to consume them like with water, with smoothies or with salads.
But, a recent study conducted by scientists at the University of Adelaide has figured out that grinding chia seeds before consuming can be more nutritional.
For the research, scientists exposed gut microbes from pigs to different forms of chia seeds. The samples were incubated for 70 hours and the machine was used to measure the gas released during this time to simulate the digestion process.
Hence, it was found that ground chia seeds have more beneficial metabolites or fuel that could then be used to renew gut cells.
