According to a recent study, the Covid-19 causing SARS-CoV-2 virus may survive on meat and fish products in the fridge or freezer for up to 30 days.

Published in the journal Applied and Environmental Microbiology, the research was conducted using chicken, beef, pork, salmon and surrogate viruses with spikes similar to those on SARS-CoV-2.

The team found that the Covid-19 virus can survive within various refrigerated or frozen meat products for a month. They also observed that the virus can replicate within the gut, as well as in the respiratory tract.

Continued efforts are needed to prevent contamination of food and food processing surfaces to prevent Covid-19 infection, researchers suggested.
