We love indulging in red, juicy strawberries, but did you know that not only the fruits but their green leaves are also nutritional and beneficial for health?
Healthcare professional Dr Karan Rajan has shared on Instagram that "if you're eating strawberries, eat the leaves too as the top part of a strawberry along with the leaves, known as a calyx, offers nutritional benefits as much as the berry itself.
Dr. Rajan explained that the leaves are rich in polyphenols, acting as antioxidants, and contain nearly as much vitamin C as the strawberries and are also packed with various other beneficial nutrients.
Rich in Antioxidants: Strawberries are packed with antioxidants like vitamin C, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds, which help protect the body against oxidative stress.
High in Nutrients: They are low in calories but high in vitamins (like vitamin C, vitamin K, and folate), minerals (such as potassium and manganese), and dietary fibre.
Support Heart Health: The antioxidants and fibre in strawberries contribute to heart health by reducing cholesterol levels and improving circulation.
Promote Skin Health: Vitamin C in strawberries is essential for collagen production, promoting skin elasticity and protecting against skin damage.
Regulate Blood Sugar: The fibre and antioxidants in strawberries can help regulate blood sugar levels and reduce insulin resistance.
