Our eyes are the most priced possessions and we must do everything to care for them. In this era of technology our eyes are badly tired and strained due to the harmful rays from our phones, laptops etc.
Taking daily care of the eyes is important by using proper anti glare glasses or seeing an expert regularly for check ups. However, some dietary habits can also be inculcated in our lifestyle to ensure better health eyes and to prevent them from infections and cataracts, glaucoma, among others in the future.
Omega-3 fatty acids
Fish like salmon, is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and could be great for the eyes. These ‘healthy fats’ are needed for vision development and retina health. They even help prevent dry eyes. If you’re a vegetarian, add nuts like walnuts and almonds, and chia or flaxseeds to your diet.
Dairy products
To improve night vision and prevent the onset of cataract, include foods rich in vitamin A and Zinc in your diet. Dairy is a good source of both. Yogurt and milk are easy to make a part of your daily diet.
Leafy vegetables
Eat your greens! Dark leafy greens and vegetables like spinach and kale contain two of the most essential antioxidants needed for healthy eyes, known as zeaxanthin and lutein. These antioxidants are stored in the Macula, which protects the eyes from damaging light. Eat at least three servings of greens per week to see a real difference.
Carrots
There could definitely be some truth behind the age-old adage that rabbits never wear glasses and it’s because they’re always munching on carrots. Rich in beta-carotene, which is converted into Vitamin A by the body, carrots could promote healthy vision. Eat them raw as a snack or make some carrot soup!
Citrus fruits
Citrus fruits like oranges and lemons are rich in Vitamins C and E. They act as antioxidants and are great for eye health and prevent age related eye problems.
