Most of us enjoy our meals with a bowl of curd, especially in summers. While some prefer eating it plain, others like consuming it with a pinch of salt, black pepper and some vegetables.

Adding vegetables like onion, cucumber and bottle gourd (lauki) to curd for making raita is quite common in Indian households. However, as per Ayurveda, consuming onions in raita is not as healthy as you think and can be hazardous to our health.

Ayurveda claims that dahi and onions have opposite effects. Curd is cool in nature and onions are considered hot. Combining the two together can create an imbalance in your body which may lead to severe health issues like indigestion, acidity and bloating. In some cases, the reaction may also cause vomiting, food poisoning and skin allergies.
