This year Maha Shivratri is being celebrated on 8th of March. Mahashivratri, a Hindu festival honouring Lord Shiva, is celebrated with fasting, prayer, and devotion across India. It symbolizes overcoming darkness and ignorance, embracing light and knowledge.

If you're fasting on Mahashivratri, here's a simple recipe you can try. Make potato halwa in minutes.

Take 2 boiled potatoes and mash them properly. Add 2-3 tablespoons of ghee in a hot pan and put the mashed potatoes into it. Mix it properly until it gets golden brown. Add 3-4 tablespoons of sugar and stir until the sugar gets dissolved. Your potato halwa is ready, garnish it with some nuts and enjoy.

Here are some other commonly prepared dishes for Mahashivratri:

Sabudana Khichdi: Made with tapioca pearls, peanuts, and potatoes, this dish is a favourite during fasting.

Aloo Tikki: These potato patties seasoned with spices are a popular snack for fasting days.

Fruit Salad: A refreshing mix of fruits like bananas, apples, oranges, and pomegranates, often seasoned with a hint of chaat masala.

Makhana Kheer: A creamy dessert made with roasted fox nuts (makhana), milk, and sugar, flavored with cardamom and saffron.

Sama Rice Khichdi: A variation of traditional khichdi made with sama rice (barnyard millet), peanuts, and potatoes.
