A McDonald's employee on TikTok recently revealed the preparation process of the fast food chain's iced tea, asserting that it contains more sweetness than most customers might anticipate.
The viral video, which has gained significant traction with 1.3 million views and 101,700 likes, features Gia revealing that the restaurants utilize an entire 4-pound bag of sugar when making their iced tea.
However, some users mentioned that their respective McDonald's locations do not follow this exact method, highlighting the variations in iced tea preparation across different branches. The website of McDonald's also claims that a large size of sweet tea contains 40 grams of sugar.
The US Food and Drug Administration recommends that added sugars should constitute less than 10 per cent of an individual's total daily caloric intake. For example, a daily diet consisting of 2,000 calories would allow for a maximum of 200 calories or 50 grams of added sugars per day.
