From engagement to cruise party: Timeline of the 7-month long Ambani wedding frenzy will make you gasp

Indian weddings are all about big celebrations and having fun. While Indian weddings usually last anywhere between 2 days to a week, the Ambani-Merchant family are having a seven-month-long celebration. What started with a quiet engagement in Rajasthan, was followed by two pre-wedding functions and a host of other events.

As Radhika Merchant and Anant Ambani get ready to tie the knot, here is a timeline of their big fat Indian wedding that will surely make you gasp.

The Engagement: December 2023

Anant and Radhika's wedding shenanigans began in December when Anant proposed to Radhika Merchant at a temple in northern Rajasthan. It was a quiet, private affair and they were surrounded by family and close friends.

The Engagement Party: January 2024

After their roka, the families hosted an engagement party to celebrate. They invited many Bollywood stars including Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and others to be a part of the celebrations. 

Pre-Wedding Celebrations Part 1 - Jamnagar: March 2024

In March the Ambanis hosted a three-day extravaganza in Jamnagar as they celebrated the union of their youngest son. 

With over 1200 guests, the event was a huge success. Many International guests including Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates attended the event. The Ambanis hosted a communal dinner for more than 50,000 villagers outside Jamnagar.

The event saw mind-blowing performances from Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan.
International singer Rihanna was invited to a private concert and she had a blast as she did thumkas with Janhvi Kapoor and stole Orry's earrings.

Radhika's intimate bridal shower: April 2024

Radhika and her friends had a fun bridal shower. While her bridesmaids were dressed in silk shirt and pyjama sets for the occasion, Radhika stunned in an ivory-coloured loungewear set. Many including Janhvi Kapoor attended the small gathering.

Pre-wedding Celebrations Part 2 - European Cruise Party: May 2024

After the mega celebrations in Jamnagar, the Ambanis set off on a four-day European cruise party with their friends and family in May. Many International singers including Backstreet Boys and Katy Perry entertained the audience. The grand cruise party saw in attendance many from Bollywood.

Mass Wedding

Ahead of their son's wedding, the Ambanis hosted a mass wedding in Navi Mumbai. The mass wedding was for 50 couples from the underprivileged section of society. Nearly 800 people witnessed the joyous ceremony. The Ambanis also gave gold ornaments, including nose rings, wedding rings, mangalsutra, and silver toe rings and anklets as gifts to the bride.

Radhika's Mameru ceremony: July

Kick starting the wedding celebrations, the Ambanis and Merchants held a mameru ceremony. The ceremony includes the mama giving gifts to the bride.

Haldi, Mehendi, Sangeet

From a star-studded sangeet ceremony with a performance by Justin Bieber to an intimate and fun Haldi, the Ambanis and Merchants had a gala time at the pre-wedding functions.

On July 12, Anant and Radhika are all set to tie the knot and we cannot wait to see this union! While both Isha and Shloka picked lehengas by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, we wait to see what attires Radhika and Anant wear on the D-day.
