Dal Chawal is comfort food for many Indians and we all consider dal or lentils the best source of protein. But what if we tell you it's not.

Recently, fitness expert, Mac Singh listed 4 reasons on Instagram about why dal is not the best source of protein.

  • One bowl of dal has around 5 to 10 gms of protein while our body requires about 50 to 60 gms of protein daily.
  • Dal has more carbs than protein. A single bowl of dal contains 30 to 40 gms of carbs which is more than protein.
  • The protein in dal doesn't get absorbed completely as compared to eggs or other protein rich food. Only 70-80% of dal gets absorbed.
  • Dal also contains a lot of amino acids; both essential and non-essential.
