Expert shares shocking revelation in viral podcast video

A viral clip from a podcast, 'The Diary of a CEO' has been making rounds where a former Neuroendocrinologist, Dr. Robert Lustig claims that, nowadays children have fatty liver disease even when they don’t drink alcohol because they drink apple juice which is metabolised just like alcohol.

Over consumption of apple juice may be a matter of concern

According to a report by The Indian Express, Shubha Ramesh L, Chief Dietician & Nutritionist at DHEE Hospital says that apple juice and alcohol have different components and and recognising them can help us make better decisions. Even though apple juice contains natural sugars like fructose and glucose, vitamins and antioxidants, its over consumption may be a big concern especially for the liver.

The doctor also mentioned that processed apple juice, commonly found in supermarkets are even more harmful as it mostly lacks the fibre and some nutrients present in natural fresh juice.

Why eating a fruit is way better than having its juice

Eating whole fruit is better than having juice because it retains fibre, which aids digestion and helps control blood sugar levels. Whole fruit also provides a more complete range of nutrients and a feeling of fullness, reducing overeating.
