Condoms are the biggest saviour when it comes to prevent unwanted pregnancies, but there are many misinformation and myths around it.
Gynaecologist Amina Khalid debunks some of them:
- Condoms do protect against STIs, but they may not protect against all sexually transmitted infections like herpes, HPV, and syphilis.
- Using 2 condoms together for extra protection is a big no, as it causes friction which can increase the chances of breakage.
- We often buy condoms without checking expiry date, but the material used in condoms expire and degrades with time increasing the risk of breaking it.
- You should not use extra lubricants like Vaseline, oils and creams, with condoms as they weaken them.
- If you're allergic to latex condoms, you can use non-latex condoms which are safe to use.
