According to a study presented at the  European Academy of Neurology (EAN), Covid-19 patients are at an increased risk of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and ischaemic stroke.

For the study, researchers analysed the health records of 9,19,731 individuals from February 2020 to November 2021. They used statistical techniques to calculate relative risk and results were stratified for hospitalisation status, age, sex and comorbidities.

As per the findings, 43,375 people who tested positive had 3.5 times increased risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, 2.6 times higher risk of Parkinson’s disease and 2.7 times with ischaemic stroke.
