A lot of people experience sadness after sex but don’t know why. Clinical psychologists say post-coital dysphoria (PCD) commonly called ‘post-sex blues’ is a scientific phenomenon that can occur even after consensual sex and can also happen among survivors of sexual assault. But there are other reasons also behind PCD according to experts. Let’s discuss.

Reasons behind PCD:

  • Experts say this happens when people expect a higher level of satisfaction after sex.
  • When someone is stressed due to reasons like work, health etc.
  • People sometimes cry or laugh after becoming physically intimate as a result of a strong orgasm or multiple orgasms.
  • Someone dealing with anxiety and depression might experience triggered emotions after sex.
  • PCD can also be triggered as and when a woman approaches menopause or during that phase.
  • According to psychologists, it is advisable to talk to your partner, a friend or a professional if you face an extreme gush of emotions after sex.
