Several videos of people cleaning fruits with vinegar are doing rounds on the internet. Well, vinegar's acidic properties are known to kill bacteria and this specific thing has prevailed the idea that this kitchen ingredient may help to remove pesticides, protective waxes and microbes, and will keep your produce fresh for longer.
However, the question is that is it really necessary to wash fruits with vinegar?
According to science, the answer is no! The USDA states that washing fruits and vegetables under plain water for 15 seconds is more than enough.
As per a study conducted by the Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Research at Tennessee State University, washing fruits and vegetables under plain water can kill 98 per cent of bacteria and surface pesticides.
