According to health experts, it is possible to reduce the risk of cancer by making some lifestyle changes. But what if we told you that cancer can be caused by straightening your hair regularly? Yes, you heard it right.
A recent study found that frequent hair straightening increases the risk of cancer as hair straighteners contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals, which are often implicated as causes of breast and cervical cancer.
The study also shows that women over the age of 70 have a 1.64% increased risk of uterine cancer but using hair straighteners increases this probability to 4.05%.
Alexandra White, a researcher at the US National Institute of Health Safety, said that uterine cancer is common in the United States. However, women who use straighteners four or more times a year are two and a half times more likely to develop this cancer than others.
