Duck walking is a vital exercise for pregnant women, especially if the baby is in head down position. Starting around 30 weeks, this practice aids flexibility and pelvic mobilisation.
Recently, fertility consultant, Dr. Kavitha Venkatesan explained on Instagram that duck walking incorporates squats, lunges, and crab walk elements. It strengthens thighs and promotes better hip movement, potentially reducing delivery pain.
Duck walking enhances overall health, core strength, and reduces lower back pain, which is common during pregnancy. It ensures better abdominal strength, posture, and breathing patterns while reducing abdominal pressure. Duck walking is particularly beneficial in the second phase of labor, aiding contractions and facilitating smoother delivery.
However, pregnant women should consult healthcare providers before incorporating duck walking or any kind of exercise or new physical activity into their daily routine to ensure its suitability for their specific pregnancy condition.
