Eye flu: Home remedies to prevent conjunctivitis in monsoon

As conjunctivitis cases continue to rise in several parts of the country, it's high time to take precautions to minimize irritation, redness, swelling, and watery eyes. 

Here are 4 home remedies for eye infection

  • Saltwater or saline water is one of the most effective home remedies. Saline water has antimicrobial properties which help to clean your eyes. Add 1 teaspoon of salt in half a litre of water, dip cotton in it and swab on your eyes. 
  • The powerful anti-inflammatory and soothing properties of green tea bags are potent to soothe inflammation and reduce swelling of eyes. Relax your eyes by placing cold tea bags on them. 
  • Essential oils like peppermint and tea tree have potential antimicrobial properties which battle microorganism causing an eye infection. Add a few drops of essential oils in boiling water and take steam for about 5 minutes. 
  • Honey has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties which is an effective home remedy for eye infection. Boil a cup of water and add 2 drops of honey. Let it cool down, and put it in your eye with the help of a dropper. Wash after 5-10 minutes
