Even people who do not consume alcohol can deal with problems of the fatty liver called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) due to various reasons. However, recent research found out that NAFLD can affect brain function too.
Scientists at the Roger Williams Institute of Hepatology discovered that fat in the liver causes a decrease in oxygen flow to the brain resulting in inflammation of the brain tissues.
According to health experts, NAFLD affects approximately 25% of the population and over 80% of obese people. Previous studies have proven the negative effects of unhealthy diet and obesity on brain health, but this is the first study that links NAFLD with brain function dwindling.
