According to a new study published in the journal Scientific Reports, a higher intake of sugary and high glycemic load foods like doughnuts and other non-fat yogurts may influence poor oral health.

For the study, the team investigated whether carbohydrates and sugary foods are associated with the composition of oral bacteria in 1,204 postmenopausal women.

Researchers found that carbohydrates consumption may lead to tooth decay and some types of cardiovascular disease. Apart from this, excessive sugar intake may cause gingivitis; a common gum disease.
