As per the latest ICMR guidelines, drinking tea and coffee should be avoided at least one hour before and after meals. Consuming these beverages just around mealtime interferes with iron absorption and puts one at a risk of developing anaemia.

The guideline states that alcohol consumption in excess hinders with absorption of nutrients and causes various deficiencies in the body.

People are at a higher risk of heart attack and hypertention if they consume more than 60 ml of ethyl alcohol.
