Ahead of International Yoga Day, the central government has asked all ministries and departments to allow employees to take a Y-break which refers to practicing yoga on an office chair for a short duration to de-stress, refresh and focus.
Introduced by the Ministry of AYUSH, the idea is to practice light Yoga asanas including pranayama (breathing techniques) and dhyana (meditation) while sitting in your chair by taking a few minutes break from work. It will not only benefit physical health but will also help manage stress and improve mental health of employees.
International Yoga Day is observed every year on June 21. It aims to raise awareness about the many benefits of practicing yoga.
Originated in India, Yoga is known as an age-old tradition that helps achieve physical, mental and spiritual harmony. It is useful to a person’s overall health and focuses on the correct functioning of the body and mind.
